On this day three age ago , I drop a line myfirst poston the blog . I had no idea what I was doing at the fourth dimension , despite starting a “ horticulture web log . ” Do n’t be fooled — those delectable tomatoes and hefty squashes in that picture were already there when I took over the garden ( planted by the previous owners ) and after I moved in , I happened to inherit their summertime harvests .

In fact , I was so intimidated by the garden that I did n’t adjoin anything for the first week . I did n’t know when or what or how to reap . But when my then - boyfriend , now - hubby institute in that first zucchini with a big smile — “ Hey , check this out ! ” — I was hooked . And then he brought in another courgette the next Clarence Shepard Day Jr. . And then another the day after that . And then I learned one of the first things about garden : Zucchini will take over your yard and feed your entire street !

A spate has changed since Day 1 . Now that we ’re on Day 1,097 ( because we had a Leap Year in there ) , I think I ultimately know what I ’m doing . I ’ve grown a few thing and killed a few things , but I can found my own tomatoes and squashes . I ’ve accumulated over 300 packets of seeds . I ’ve cooked countless repast from the garden and share them with loved ones . I ’ve made jam … lotsof jam . I ’ve nonplus ill of jam and made pickles . ( And by the mode , I last opened a two - yr - one-time jar of jam the other day , decently seal of course , and it was still as luscious as I ’d commemorate it ! ) I ’ve won anaward . I ’ve taken good pictures . I ’ve built achicken coop . I ’ve travel through 7 states and 14 country . I ’ve found a secret surf berth by my house ( to be capable to say that in LA is almost a legend ) . I’veshaped my own surfboard . I ’ve gottenmarried … twice ( to the same guy , that is ) . And perhaps most incredulously of all , I ’ve become agarden expert for HGTV . ( Yes , my friend still tease me about that one . )

If you ’d involve my pre - Garden Betty self what I thought the last three year would look like , I never would ’ve predicted the awesomeness of it all . by from my college yr , these may have been the full three years of my lifetime . ( So far ! )

In the outset , I was n’t even sure anybody would ever read my web log . I just blogged . And the readers came . I fork out from blogging about gardening to also blogging about electronic jamming making , jam zymolysis , cocktail shaking , wimp keeping , off - grid living , adventure travelling , and week - long road - tripping . Eventually , the web log became too cock-a-hoop for its original design and I realized I want to do a major overhaul on the website .

That was a yr ago . ( ! )

My readers deserved better . I lastly kicked the dilatoriness this summertime and so , here it is … a raw and improved Garden Betty !

Now you’re able to incur all the thing you were never able to find before , neatly organized and categorise . I have a quick - start guidehereto assist you navigate the new site , but I retrieve you ’ll detect it quite visceral . There may be a few tweak here and there over the come weeks , but I hope you like it so far .

Thanks for sticking around to see the transformation . You are much have a go at it !
