Three weeks ago while chit-chat the Raleigh North Carolina area I   had the chance to visit with my pricy friend Helen Yoest – the woman behind BeeBetter ™ - a non - profit dedicate to educating people about how to make their gardens more welcoming to all pollinator as well as being more sustainable . Helen is a member of many plant societies and is an alive fellow member of the Raleigh ( Piedmont chapter ) of NARGS , the North American Rock Garden Society , who invited me to speak at the JC Raulston Arboretum for their annual lecture and auction sale .

I made sure to drop a full day with her while visiting the area , and looked frontwards for coffee and a circuit of her garden for who does n’t savour seeing another plant person ’s garden ? drive to Helen ’s home my iPhone battery ran out so I had to ‘ fly it ’ , which is n’t hard once you are in the ecumenical vicinity of a gardeners neighborhood , correct ?

It ’s always easy to find the real gardener on a street , specially in Helen ’s neighborhood where there were baronial home with tidy , well kept front lawns and clipped bush trimmed into bean , cones and topiary . Along total a garden that looked – like a garden , concluded with a ‘ water supply - overbold ’ sign near the mail box seat , and no front lawn . Kind of like our front pace !

Helen was out front weeding when I overstretch up to the curb , and I was laughing because we gardeners are all a morsel connected in life ! . I thought that I knew much about Helen ’s horticulture dash , for if you bonk her from her active social media thing or site , you know that she is ardent and funny , as well as overbold about plant and gardening .

What I did n’t really realize however was how Helen has focused her horticultural training on pollenate plant – in fact , most everything in her garden is now somehow connect to her newest speculation – Bee Better – a plant - centric project with a actual deputation . One that focuses on educating homeowners , home and land developers ( I know , correct ? ) and even residential district leaders about the grandness of sustainable , constitutional and water - fresh horticulture .
