Today ’s photos are from Michele Foster in North Vancouver , British Columbia . She says,“We moved into our sign of the zodiac the summertime of 2009 . The property was overgrown and severe to count at .
“ First , we join a gym so we would n’t spite ourselves . We tackle a part each year because so much elbow grease was involved . We did n’t even know we had retaining walls until the overgrown Retama raetam were pulled out . you’re able to guess my joy !
“ Working with a clean-living slate I decided to make summer the chief theme for the gardens . I considered how the house would look when we updated it to a Tuscan icteric stucco and new terra cotta roof tiles and design the gardens to congratulate that .

“ We planted ‘ Karl Foerester ’ feather reed grass ( Calamagrostisxacutiflora‘Karl Foerester ’ ) all the way up the steep driveway . Hydrangeas , sedums , Russian salvia , and black - eyed Susans are staples in a cheery garden . The gunnera is monolithic and neighbours often stop and take pic . Hosta , Japanese Forest Grass ( Hakonechloa macraand cvs . ) and astilbe are a gorgeous , soft aid compounding in shady areas . I find slugs do n’t care too much for the blue Funka .
“ Fall had to be moot next , and we strategically put shrubs – Cotinus coggygria(smoke bush),Euonomous alatus‘Compactus ’ ( burn bush ) , ninebark ( Physocarpus‘Coppertina ’ ) , and an off - revolve around Nipponese maple ( ‘ Osakazuki’–one of the most stunning fall colours)–so they were part of the deliberate design . The summertime flowers like the sedums deepen in colour and really compliment these as the time of year extend on . A honeyed autumn clematis make a bigger argument every year and is becoming quite stunning to see . We planted Boston English ivy on the retain rampart and the house .
“ Spring became a show of primarily yellowish green ( euphorbias ) , purple ( aubrietaandrhodos ) and orangish ( euphorbias , deciduous azaleas , andSpirea‘Magic Carpet ’ ) with pops of whitened ( Iberis and bridlewreath spirea , blue lithodora , and red poppies .

It ’s obviously and fortuitously an on-going labor . When we ’re done we ’ll have to move , LOL … fortunately we never will be . ”
Michele , I need to endure in that seating area ! Everything is gorgeous . And I am more overjealous of your gunnera than you could ever have a go at it . So darned Jurassically cool .
I ’m getting reports that many of you are still not getting the daily electronic mail . netmail me at[email protected]with any issues and we ’ll attempt to address them on this end . Thanks for your longanimity ! – Michelle
