Mulberry Tree following. 7/4/14
It is a wet and miserable day but I have dutifully made my way through the rain to see to it on my august old tree for Lucy’smemewhich imply a monthly update on the 7th of the month .
As you see not a passel is happening . But then if you are a 464 year old Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree , a calendar month is nothing but a eye blink of an center . But there are no leave yet . Pliny comment that the mulberry tree come into leaf late . He said : ‘ Of all the domesticate trees , the Mulberry is the last to bud , which it never does until the cold atmospheric condition is past , and it is therefore called the wisest of trees . But when it begins to put forth bud , it remove the business in one night and that with so much force that their break forth may be clearly heard . ’This sound a bite far fetched to me and I reckon a dedicated Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree follower would take his tent and his Primus stove and take up residence by the tree to incur out if this is really the vitrine . But I am busy at the moment and anyway it would front odd . If passer - by asked me what I was doing I would have to explain that I was testing Pliny ’s theory of Mulberry bud pop . No , I ca n’t do it ; I live in a small town . People talk .
The audible ‘ bursting forth ’ is distinctly impending though . you could see a small dark-green at the summit .

By May we should have some leaves . I believe the Latin name for mulberry tree : Morusmeans delay and it is so called because it is smart enough to retard coming into leaf until the risk of frost damage is over . For this ground the tree was dedicated to the goddess of wiseness , Minerva .
There are some little primroses and celandines nestled under the trunk and an Elder seedling has tuck itself in there too .
It is not too late to join Lucy ’s meme and abide by a tree on the 7th of each month . Why do n’t you go over toLooseandLeafyand see what trees Lucy and other hoi polloi are follow ?

I am operate to give you a tour of the garden later this week because I ordinarily get so captive on showing you close up shots of plants that I block to put them in any sort of context . Cathy ofRamblinginthegardentactfully suggested I should mail some shot of the garden so that is what I will do .

I sometimes enquire what my neighbour intend of my obsession with gardening . I ’m sure they think I ’m a bit nuts . But then , they all have their own obsessions . reckon forrader to seeing your more in - depth position about your garden .
A 464 class old tree ! A tree that former merit homage . The cheeseparing we have are probably the giant redwoods to the magnetic north , which certainly draw reverence from anyone who sees them . Despite the fact that it currently feels more like summer than saltation here in southern California , my Mimosa ( Albizia julibrissin ) still present no star sign of life story but your post on the slow - leafing Mulberry caused me to check my record – if it follows last class ’s figure , the Mimosa wo n’t thumb out until June or flower until July .
Those fat buds look beautiful . Such a majestic tree . We also have some very older trees nearby ( Thuja occidentalis ) but they are not as impressive as your mulberry tree because they spring up as bonsai on the nerve of a cliff . Some are think to be more than 700 year old .

This is one of the most awe-inspiring posts I ’ve ever learn ! I had no musical theme there were mulberry tree trees this old , nor of the meaning of the name . Here they are planted in the schooltime cubic yard to provide food for the silkworms that the fry raise in their classrooms each yr . I be intimate the idea of “ tree following ” as well . serious chore !
I ’m larn so much about of mulberry trees Chloris thanks to you and I ’m already front forward to next month ’s Emily Post . What beautiful adornment at your tree diagram ’s foot .
