Here ’s my hunt from the other day :

“Down the road by the burned car”

I put off on my hike to hunt for untamed velvet beans with the idea of ask a neighbour if he bang where any might be growing . It did n’t take long , as I come across a local granger a mo after depart my private road . He asked where we were walk .

I told him we were hunting for the wild sting beans and his eyes widen . “ Why ? ? ? ”

I aver they were estimable medicine and he tell me , skeptical , that they were down the road by the sting car . And he also warned me to be careful … and handed us a few ripe Achras zapota for the road . My neighbour are capital .

I found the beans without trouble , and I thought I was thrifty handling them . I had mitt and jeans on , plus a plastic bag for the noggin .

I was n’t heedful enough .

The itching creeps up on you . It ’s a minute of a tickling , then a sting , then an insistent cutting itch that will drive you mad .

Though I did n’t touch any of the bean , the fine hair vagabond off the seedcase when they are agitate … and where those hair will bring , no one knows .

Granted , I did n’t get it too badly . My arms were drive me crazy for a while and have bad when I wash them . I cautiously peeled out of my outer clothes and scrub my arms with goop and water . Eventually the itching subsided .

Eventually .

The beans we found in the wild were humble and uglier than the ones Keith grew , and they in spades were n’t as large as the stingless types . They almost looked a bit mangy .

Originally I planned on planting these somewhere and using them like I used the stingless velvet noggin I used to grow back in Florida .

Now ? No . Too unpleasant a plant for the homestead , as much as enjoin that makes me finger like a loser .

If I ever get an “ itchiness ” to establish them , I ’ll go back and watch this video again .

UPDATE: You can findstingless velvet beans on ebay.
