Peonies may be the stars of this garden, but the other plants deserve their own moment in the spotlight
Today we ’re sharing more photo from Connie Prendergast ’s garden in Sedgewick , Alberta . Sometimes we gardeners sense like we could have the garden of our dreams if only we were in a different climate . It can be so easy to find like all the plants we really want to grow are not quite dauntless here or need different conditions . But Connie point that you may make an unbelievable garden no matter where you are . Sedgewick is in USDA Hardiness Zone 3 , about 300 miles ( 480 klick ) north of the U.S. perimeter in Montana . zona 3 means that the medium lowly temperature each wintertime is between – 40 ° F and – 30 ° F ( – 40 ° C to – 34 ° C ) . Yet Connie has make full her garden with beautiful works that thrive in her cold climate . Yesterday we feature her beautiful collecting of peonies , which express joy at cold winters , and today we ’re looking at some of the other beautiful plants in her garden .
Bright orange Asiatic lilies ( Lilium , Asiatic group , Zones 3–9 ) mingle with the cheery bloom of heliopsis daisies ( Leucanthemum vulgareZones 3–8)—with , of form , some peonies in the scope .
Foliage major power ! Yellow - green hosta leaves contrast with a gloomy heuchera ( Heucherahybrid , Zones 3–8 ) option . Above them , lily bud are ready to erupt in to flower , and , of row , there ’s another peony in the backcloth ! This is indeed the garden of a peony lover .

Masterwort ( Astrantia John R. Major , Zones 4–7 ) has intricate , strange flower that are beloved by pollinators . A good choice for northerly gardens , it expand best in region where the summer are n’t too red-hot .
Mock orange ( Philadelphussp . , Zones 4–8 ) is an previous - fashioned shrub that ’s not seen oft in today ’s garden but is well worth constitute . It compensate itself with pretty white flush , and even good — those flowers are full of the celestial perfume of orangish blossom .
Beautiful flower are n’t the only residents of this garden ! This Caterpillar knows that it looks its best when paired with the pinkish flowers of spiked speedwell ( Veronica spicata , Zones 3–8 ) .

Another view of pink spiked veronica , with the live pink flowers reverberate the color of the peony in the back .
