Just two flights of steps off from one of Britain ’s busy retail floor , six story above Oxford Street , lie down London ’s newest urban fleeceable space . The Frustrated Gardener visited today , just a few days after it was revealed to the public .
In honor of 150 days trading on London ’s Oxford Street , John Lewis has make a vibrant new garden on the cap of its flagship fund . design by Tony Woods , the RHS Young Garden Designer of the Year 2013 , the space has been transformed from a dismal landscape of grey roofing matte up , to a green oasis . Located at the front of the store , the garden has views over the Mayfair rooftops to icons such as the London Eye , pleasantly blurred by a fuzz of birch rod , willows and wildlife - well-disposed flowers .
Part of the John Lewis Partnership , Longstock Park Water Gardenand its nursery provided Tony with both brainchild and industrial plant textile for the project . The planting is design to withstand the harshness of its rarified position and to provide ambrosia for urban bees and butterfly . bloom now areAllium‘Purple Sensation’,Erigeron karvinskianus , andErysimum‘Bowles ’s Mauve ’ , with rosiness , lavender , sedum and jasmine lined up for later in the summer . Agreen wall , so stylish at the moment , reflect John Lewis ’ forwards thinking approach shot to retailing .

It ’s early days and so far the garden continue that ‘ just finished ’ look we last take care on Ground Force . Wide expanses are laid to hard - wearing hokey turf ; surprisingly realistic until the full lack of sens is discover . It ’s hope that through the summer the garden will maturate and become hub for weary shoppers and sunworshippers alike . There ’s a Joe and the Juice retail store offer refreshing drunkenness and tasty snacks so , combine with the myopic mount up to the cap , a sojourn can only be described as goodish exercise .
The John Lewis Oxford Street roof garden is open daily 10 am – 4 pm ( Sunday 11.30am – 4 pm ) and will be hosting a serial publication ofeventsthroughout the summer .
