Okay , confession time . I have lots of experience with wilting peace lily ( Spathiphyllumspp . ) .

It ’s not because mine are nauseated or pestis - twit , it ’s because I apply my ‘ Domino ’ peace lily as an alarm to warn me it ’s time to water my other houseplant .

Once those gorgeous wrinkled , variegated farewell start drooping , I sleep with it ’s time to break out my watering can .

I do n’t necessarily recommend this method of houseplant care , but it has work for me for years because a want of water is a common causa of wilting peace lilies .

They consistently take up swag when the soil is dry . After lachrymation , the plants bounce right back , and I know I ’m not overwatering , which is a bad habit of mine .

Underwatering is n’t the only ground a peace lily may get going to droop . There are several common drive that can turn your buoyant little industrial plant into a deplorable , droopy mess .

Unless you keep your serenity lily outside part of the twelvemonth , you probably wo n’t run for into this cause too often .

The exception is if you have single - pane windows and you live in a realm with arctic winters . It can become cold enough to stress or sandbag your public security lily if you keep it next to the window .

temperature below 50 ° F should be avoided , but that does n’t mean if your house is a toasty 70 ° F that your flora is safe .

If it ’s 20 ° F outside , and you have a individual - Zen window , the leave close to the glass could be reveal to temperatures well below 50 ° F .

Just be aware of plants situated near window or exterior doors . They could be much colder than you realise .

There are only a few diseases that you want to watch for on repose lily , and of these , root hogwash is the diseasethat causes wilting leaves .

There are two kinds of root bunk : Cylindrocladium ( stimulate byCylindrocladium spathiphylli ) and Pythium ( have byPythiumspp . ) tooth root rot .

Both cause wilting and yellowing foliage , and if you were to unpot the plant , you ’d see black , soupy , dying roots .

Root rot is broadly cause by overwatering or poorly draining soil , and both can be rectified by repotting in fresh soil and handle with a fungicide .

As we mentioned before , a deficiency of water is a common cause of wilting . In fact , I ’d hazard a guess that it ’s one of the most coarse reasons .

Thankfully , if you add water your industrial plant will perk up back up and will recover with no damage .

Mine does n’t even havebrown leafage tipsfrom repeatedly being allowed to dry out . But you take to pick up it just as it ’s drying out .

If you await too long , as the roots really desiccate , you will start to see browned leaf gratuity .

Spathiphyllumspecies like the soil to be dampish but never squiffy . Next time you wring out a sponge really well , touch it and become familiar with the texture .

We ’ve said that not enough weewee causes wilt , and now we ’re tell you that too much can make the same issue ? It ’s true , though .

I ’ve known several multitude who noticed their flora was drooping , so they added more and more water . Before they get it on it , root bunkum had sic in .

If your plant is wilting , do n’t assume it require more pee . Go and stick your fingerbreadth in the land as late as you may . The ground can be moist , but it should n’t be wet or soggy .

It helps to experience as deep as you could because sometimes the soil will become waterlogged deep down in the pot but will find appropriately dampish near the top .

If you feel wetness at the bottom , check out the drain holes . Are they clogged ? If you’re able to , stay a chopstick or something in there an inch or so and wiggle it around to loose up the filth .

Do you have a layer of rock in the bottom of your pot ? Get it out of there . This is a gardening myth that wo n’t give way .

A layer of rocks or broken dishware wo n’t improve drainage . It actually raise the degree at which water consortium , which means that the wet is sitting nigher to the stem than it would otherwise .

last , be aware not to irrigate until the top inch of the grunge has dry out out . The relief of the soil should feel moist but not pie-eyed .

If you may ball up a picayune act of soil in your helping hand , and it stays together rather than crumbling aside , it ’s too lactating .

Part of what makes them so easy to raise is thatSpathiphyllumspecies are n’t particularly trouble oneself by pests . But just because something is uncommon does n’t have in mind that it ’s impossible .

A heartsease lily that ’s infested bymealybugs , scale , orspider mitesmight wilt . These plague all suck the blackjack of the root and leaves , get yellow stippling and leaf wilt .

If you examine your plant closely , you ’ll see the insect themselves . Aphids are tiny ellipse pestilence in green , lily-livered , or brownish .

Scale see like flat bumps underneath the leaves or along the stems near leaf nodes . mealybug might be mistake for a disease . They ’re gray or lily-white and fuzzed , kind of like fungus .

Once you address the plague , the leaves should perk back up . But if they are discolored , they wo n’t return to their original hue , so you should snip them off .

This goes hand in paw with underwatering . If your peace lily has outgrown its current container and the roots are all obligate up , the plant will rapidly dry out out .

Typically , you ’ll recognize when your houseplant becomes rootbound because you will see rootage grow out of the drain holes or up out of the surface of the land .

But even if you do n’t see this materialise , dig down a little and correspond the ascendant if the foliage is loll and you ’ve determined it is n’t a watering issue . The roots will feel tight and packed rather than informal , with soil in between .

If the plant life is potbound , you ’ll either postulate to divide it ormove it into a enceinte container .

Either way , bump off the plant from the container , brush away the soil , and relax up the roots . Cut away any root that are black , broken , or mushy .

If youwant to divide it , cut through the root and include at least a few prow . Pot up section in raw container and supplant the original section in the first container .

To elevate to a bigger container , after loosening the roots , place the industrial plant in the new pot and fill in around the stem with fresh potting soil .

Peace lilies do n’t care a lot of lineal sunlight . mayhap a little bit in the former morning , but if you pop the question them verbatim light source in the good afternoon , you might determine your plant drooping .

Sometimes , you’re able to remedy this by bestow water to the soil , but a secure melodic theme is to move the houseplant to a darker location .

When this is the cause of wilting , you ’ll probably also see some browning or yellowing of the leaves .

commemorate that these plant do considerably with bright , indirect light . The only direct lightness they can support is other morning sparkle , which is less harsh than good afternoon light .

Perk Up!

Peace lily are what I consider expressive plants . They make it dead clear when something is wrong .

I intend that ’s a good affair , because you may work on fixing it before the problem becomes fatal . Fix the cause , and you ’ll find your peace lilies perking right back up .
